Dr Sinead Leahy

Principal Scientist

Sinead Leahy is Principal Scientist at the Ag Emissions Centre, which invests in and coordinates research to help reduce New Zealand's agricultural greenhouse gas emissions.

Sinead holds a PhD in Microbiology and Biochemistry from University College Cork, Ireland, and has held a range of research and advisory roles in New Zealand. She oversees the Ag Emissions Centre's research programmes and initiatives, working closely with farmers and growers, rural professionals, industry leaders, scientists, and government agencies to identify and develop practical solutions to agricultural emissions challenges.

Sinead is widely recognised for her expertise and leadership in the field, including her roles as Co-Chair of the Livestock Research Group of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases, a member of the Global Methane Hub Enteric Fermentation R&D Accelerator Scientific Oversight Committee, and, more recently, a Lead Author for the upcoming Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). She is committed to advancing research and practice that support more sustainable, low-emissions agricultural systems.
