Jonathan Magan

Research Officer

Jonathan Magan is a Research Officer based in the Food Chemistry & Technology Department at the Teagasc Food Research Centre at Moorepark, County Cork, Ireland. Coming from a dairy farming background in County Longford, Ireland, he holds a BSc in Food Science from University College Dublin and a PhD in Food Science and Technology from University College Cork, through the Walsh Scholarship programme at Teagasc. His research links closely with the Animal and Grassland Science departments at Teagasc to investigate the effect of primary production factors on the composition of milk and quality parameters of dairy end-products. His research activities include the effect of bovine dietary factors on milk composition, dairy powder and fat processing, seasonality in pasture-based milk production systems, methane-reducing feed additives, genetic variation in milk protein profiles, contaminants and milk quality indices. Key research projects include the Dairy Processing Technology Centre Phase II work on seasonality in Irish pasture-based milk and the GENMILK project, “A new GENeration of Irish MILK products based on optimisation of diet and GENetics in Irish dairy cows”, funded by the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.
