This farm tour explores land use, dairy production and on-farm sustainability across a large-scale North Canterbury farming enterprise. The operation manages multiple farms and applies practical approaches to responsible land and water stewardship (prioritising kaitiakitanga which means custodianship of the land and water), efficient dairy production and creating opportunities for local employment. Dairy farming practices are focused on minimising nutrient loss, improving environmental performance and reducing greenhouse gas emissions intensity. The ongoing transition from forestry to dairy farming provides valuable insights into land-use change, farm development and operational decision-making. One farm is also dedicated to a multi-year regenerative farming trial, offering an opportunity to assess alternative approaches to pasture management, soil health and sustainable food production.
