This farming operation tour spans land use, dairying and food production, guided by Iwi values. This is a South Island iwi-owned farming enterprise that manages multiple farms, prioritising kaitiakitanga (custodianship) of land and water while creating employment opportunities for tribal members and local communities. Dairy farming practices are designed to carefully minimise nutrient loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity. The transition from forestry to dairy farming is ongoing, with valuable insights gained throughout the process. In addition, one farm is fully dedicated to a regenerative farming trial, now several years under way, to assess this alternative agricultural approach.
